If you are ever in Portugal you might think this plant (Collard Greens) is the national flower. It is grown is every vegatable garden in Portugal ( even in front yards!) and the plant continues to produce leaves for over a year (another reason why it is so popular) and why it became a staple in the Portuguese diet.
Soup’s origins:
The word soup originates from the Teutonic word suppa, which refers to a Medieval dish consisting of a thick stew poured on slices of bread, called sop, used to soak up the liquid. Often described as potages. Thin soups became popular in Europe during the 17th century, when the spoon was invented.
(Portuguese pronunciation: [lĩnɡ-wesaw]) is a form of Portuguese cured pork sausage cut into cubes, not minced then seasoned with onions, garlic, and paprika. This sausage has a distinct flavor and is a favorite amongst the Portuguese. It is nothing like the Spanish “longaniza” sausage. While Linguica stays firm when you cook it, longaniza breaks up into little pieces, so you need to cook this sausage alone, not in dishes. FYI: most grocery stores carry Linguica.
